“BLESSINGS AND CURSES”
DEUTERONOMY 28
Deuteronomy Chap. 28:vs. 1-2 If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God.
What God promised for the people who fully obey Him.
1. Blessed the city and the countryside.
2. Blessed the fruit of your womb.
3. Blessed the crops of your land.
4. Blessed the calves and the lambs of your flocks.
5. Blessed the work of your hands.
The LORD your God will grant you abundant prosperity and make you a great people and establish you as His Holy people.
If you keep his commands and delight in God’s presence and His law .He will open the heavens to give from His storehouse plenty of goods and good living. The LORD will bless you and make you: THE HEAD, NOT THE TAIL. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD you will always beat the top, never the bottom.
For this if you obey the LORD your God and follow His commands, He will grant you abundant in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground all your life.
Then if we have the God’s word in our hearts and follow it in our life to honor the LORD and apply God’s wisdom, the fruit we bear will be good and will receive God’s blessing and approval.
So we can say in the Book of Psalms: “Blessed is the man, who does not walk in the counsel of wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD and His law he meditates day and night”
Deuteronomy Chap 28:vs. 15 However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all His commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come upon you and over take you.
Here is what God promised to do if you do not follow His law or decrees.
You will be cursed in the city and in the country.
Your basket and your kneading through will be cursed.
The fruit of your womb will be cursed.
Your land’s crops will be cursed.
Your herd’s calves will be cursed.
Your flocks lambs will be cursed.
If you forsake The LORD your God, He will send upon you all various kinds of curses, confusion, and rebuke. In everything you put your hand upon until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done by forsaking God.
The LORD your God says:
You will build a house but you will not live in it.
You will plant a vineyard but you will not drink from it.
Your ox will be slaughtered but you will not eat from it.
Your donkey will be forcibly taken and will not be returned.
Your sheep will be given to your enemies without rescue.
Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation.
Your land and labor production will be eaten by strangers
All these curses will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed because you did not obey the LORD your God and follow the commands and decrees He gave you.
Today, sin’s consequences are not always so apparent; when calamity strikes us we may not know the reason. It may be:
The result of our own disobedience.
The result of someone else’s sin.
The result of natural disaster.
Because we don’t know, we should search our hearts and be sure we are at peace with God following everything He said committed to His commands walking in His paths meditating on His word and love Him with all of our heart, mind, and strength.
