Walking on the water
In John 6:16-21) The Text says : [ When evening came, His disciples went down the sea, got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. But He said to them” It is I, don’t afraid”. Then they were glad to take Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going ].
many instances, they brought the trouble upon themselves. But in this case, trouble found them out in the form of a storm. Storms aren’t usually scary when experienced from the security of your own home. But the fear factor can really spike if you are in an open boat on a treacherous sea that is swelling and contracting beneath you. Nothing is certain and all you can do is hang on and hope for the best.
That is the situation the disciples found themselves in this passage. And were not talking about rain shower that lasts hour or two. Matthew’s Gospel reveals that the disciples had been caught in this tempest for six to nine hours!! ( Matthew 14:25). After hours of being tossed to and for, something quite unexpected happened. They saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat ( John 6:19) .
Don’t miss the point : Jesus is able to walk on the very waves that threaten our lives. Even when it comes to those things that threaten to down us. Jesus is
stronger, greater, and more powerful in every way. He isn’t tossed around by the waves, and neither will be if our lives are fully and truly hidden in Him.
(Colossians 3:3) says :” Your life is hidden with Christ in God.
PRAYER:
JESUS, I am so comforted that you can do anything,
anywhere, anytime. While it’s easy for me to rest in Your
strength when the sea is calm,
I am asking you to remind of your power when I am caught in the next storm
and lost sight of your truth. I can endure anything with you by my side . Amen .
