The Right Master

“THE RIGHT MASTER”

Romans Chap. 6:vs. 16-18 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that who ever once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed and having been set free from sin have become slaves to righteousness.

In certain skilled crafts, an apprentice works under a master, who trains, shapes, and molds his apprentice in the finer points of his crafts. All people choose a master and pattern themselves after him.

Without Jesus, we would have no choice, we would have to train ourselves to sin and the results would be guilt, suffering, and separation from God. Thanks to Jesus, however, now we can choose God as our master. By following Him, we can enjoy new life and learn how to work for Him. Are you still serving your first master, sin? Or have you apprenticed yourself to God.

The question is, who is your master? “We all serve somebody or something, either willingly or unwillingly.

If sin is your master, it will use you, oppress you, and eventually destroy you. Again, the issue is that we will all serve somebody or something. And the critical question is who or what is our master? If we choose sin by giving into it, it will control us, it will master us and oppress us. On the other hand, if we choose righteousness as our master it will liberate us, it will fulfill us and it will give life to all that we do.

It is the matter of choice; we are going to serve somebody or something, either sin or righteousness. That is a foregone conclusion. The issue is who and what are we choosing to serve.

The sobering words in Romans Chap. 6:vs.16-18 is that he freedom from sin is not a freedom from the presence of sin but is a freedom from the power of sin, and the choice is left up to us. Are we going to choose to feed and nurture that old slave called sin or are we going to acknowledge that the power of sin has been broken.

The cross of Jesus Christ has emancipated us from sin. That is God’s great emancipation proclamation in human history. We are free ! We are free ! Why are we standing on sin’s plantation? We don’t have to be there , God wants us to walk away and walk toward righteousness, joy, freedom and fulfillment. Choose freedom in Christ not sin and death.

* To obey whole heartedly means to give yourself fully to God , to love him “with all your heart, your soul, and your mind (Matt. 22:37) and yet so often our efforts to know and obay God’s commands can best be described as(halfhearted) . How do your heart’s obedience? God wants to give you the power to obey Him with all your heart.
PRAYER: You are a loving God . So full of mercy .Thank you for accepting me as your child . I ask you to erase my criticism of other people . Whom you created and whom you love . Give me your love and your compassion for them. I want to be adevoted disciple who draws others to you . Amen .
